Brought up in Leeds, John trained as a mining geologist and rock
engineer, and spent his working life in the mining and tunnelling
industries. He travelled extensively overseas and, with his family, lived in
Africa for 12 years working in copper, gold, coal and diamond mines.
Over the past 30 years, he focussed on the management of business
risk for large and small operations and construction projects, within the
mining and tunnelling sectors, including the construction of the first
phase of the Copenhagen Metro. The last eight years of his working life
was as an independent risk consultant.
John finally retired from paid work in 2020 and continues his activities in
the community. He has been active in the Witney Rotary Club for 10
years and recently retired as chair of governors at St Mary’s CE Infant
school on Church Green where he had served for over 15 years.
